Queenstown

December 22nd:  Queesnstown

Meet Norman and Scott.  They are an American couple who have moved to New Zealand to make a home for themselves.  In between is Jill their neighbor who popped in for a visit.  Norman and Scott have a wonderful home.  Norm is the manager of the local hospital and Scott works for the City of Queenstown.  Reuben the Westie dog didn't make it in to this set of pictures but I'll include him in another post.

A couple of glimpses out the front door on to the beautiful grounds that surround their home.  It's summer here and the setting is extraordinarily beautiful.

Queenstown also has a lovely little Catholic Church.  This is the rectory and Fr. Kevin is at the door to greet me. Kevin is a Marianist priest working in Aukland.  He flew down for a couple of weeks to help out here for the holidays.  Fr. Michael is holding down the fort while the pastor is on military duty in E. Timor with the New Zealand peacekeeping forces. It's interesting for all.

Also of interest. New Zealand made the decision to implement the new liturgical language this past Advent rather than next Advent as in the USA. It has been interesting to see how they've handled it. I suspect we will have similar experiences in the coming year.

The view from the church, which sits high on the hill above Queenstown is beathtaking.  The lake and the Remarkable Mountains which line it are magnificent.

Equally delightful was the climb to the top of the hill above Queenstown  I made it to the top and its overlook which has a huge sculpture of a bird's nest (you can sit in the nest if so inclined.  Most are content just to enjoy the views.

And then I wandered around town.  The parks and gardens are lovely.  The walk along the lake is equally satisfying.
